About Ugadi Festival
Ugadi is a festival that is observed with zeal and enthusiasm in India's Deccan region. Ugadi is derived from the Sanskrit terms 'Yug' which means era and 'Aadi' which means commencement. As a result, it signals the start of a new era.
Ugadi is a New Year event celebrated by the people of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and other Indian states, and it is known by a variety of regional names. In Karnataka, the Ugadi / Yugadi celebration entails house cleaning and washing. Telugu-ites and Kannadigas use mango leaves and flowers to decorate their homes, and they perform the custom of laying kalasha with coconut leaves at the front door. For purification, harmony, and serenity, cow excrement is strewn in front of their homes. On this auspicious day, Kannadigas attend temples, start new businesses, and make delicacies. Ugadi Pachhadi, Pulihora, Payasam, Pongal, and other delights are among the dishes prepared.
Bhakti songs and kavisammelan are held in several places across Karnataka.
For the Telugu-ites, or inhabitants of Andhra Pradesh, Ugadi marks the start of the New Year. This was the day that Lord Brahma, the world's creator, began his work.
Ugadi's Importance
One of the most important components of Ugadi is letting go of the past and starting over. Many new projects are launched by the business world on this day, and it is auspicious for families to make new investments and purchases for their homes.
Ugadi is celebrated on 2nd April 2022. As per Telugu calendar, Telugu Samvatsara 2079 starts, which is known as Shubhakruthu Nama Samvatsaramu.
Andhra Pradesh's Ugadi rituals
The women of the house clean the house and its surrounds two days before Ugadi and decorate the home's entryway with mango leaves, known as Thoranam. They make bright rangolis and buy new outfits for everyone in the family. The mango leaves symbolize a bountiful crop and a prosperous year ahead. The day begins with a sesame oil massage and bath, followed by a taste of Ugadi Pachhadi. All of the family members go to the temple to pray after tasting this delicacy. Family members perform Ugadi Pooja rituals.
The astrological predictions of a Brahmin or pundit for the Hindu year are known as Ugadi Panchagna Sravanam. Sri DurmukhinamaSamvatsaraUgadhi is the Panchanga Sravanam Ugadhi for 2022, and D NamaSamvatsaram is the Hindu year.
It's also the day when pundits make their predictions for the future year.
Ugadi Pachhadi is a cuisine with six distinct flavors. Neem buds, jaggery, green chili, salt, tamarind juice, and unripe mango make up this dish. This dish represents life's sweet, sour, and bitter experiences. Special sweets such as Payasam and Ariselu are also prepared on this day.
