India Sports Round-up - Year 2021

Up the year 2021, our Indian sportsmen have put in some of the best achievements on the field. It doesn't matter if it's the Tokyo Olympics, the World Championships, or the cricket grounds of Australia. Let's take a look at the country's top ten athletic moments in 2021.

PV Sindhu takes home her second Olympic gold medal

PV Sindhu, the nation's favorite shuttler, won her second Olympic medal in Tokyo, taking bronze in a straight-game triumph. Sindhu became the first Indian shuttler to win two consecutive Olympic medals with this victory. She also made history as the first Indian woman to win two Olympic medals.

Tai Tzu Ying of Chinese Taipei, who shattered PV Sindhu's dream of winning an Olympic gold medal in Tokyo, recounted how the Indian star shuttler made her cry with an astonishing gesture. Tai Tzu Ying, who had to settle for silver in the finals after losing to Chen Yufei of China in three games (18-21, 21-19, 18-21), took to social media to express her gratitude for PV Sindhu's incredible gift.

Gold for Neeraj Chopra in Tokyo

When Neeraj Chopra won the men's javelin throw event in Tokyo with a spectacular throw of 87.58 meters, he became the first Indian athlete to win an Olympic gold medal in athletics since independence. This is a moment that Indians will remember for the rest of their lives.


Neeraj Chopra, India's second individual Olympic gold medalist, was caught up in a dispute involving Pakistan's javelin star Arshad Nadeem, whose javelin throw of 87.58 m clinched India's first-ever gold in athletics.

Neeraj claimed in one of his interviews that he couldn't find his javelin before his first throw in the finals. Following that, a scandal ensued, with some blogs claiming that Nadeem attempted to tamper with Neeraj's javelin. Neeraj posted a video on his social media page announcing an explanation to put the dispute to bed, stating that Nadeem had done nothing improper or malevolent.

At the Asian Championships, Indian Table Tennis Team excel 

G Sathiyan, Sharath Kamal, Harmeet Desai, Sanil Shetty, and Manav Thakkar of the Indian men's table tennis team made history by capturing the bronze medal at the Asian Championship. After 1976, this was the country's second medal.


At the World Championships, Kidambi Srikanth makes history 

Kidambi Srikanth, the first Indian male shuttler to compete in the BWF World Championship Final, made history by being the first Indian male shuttler to earn a silver medal at the famous badminton championship.



India's stunning victory in the Gabba, The Lord's and the Centurion bundle

The Indian men's cricket team trounced Australia in a Test match at the Gabba venue earlier this year. The Indians made history by being the first cricket team to beat Australia in Brisbane since 1998.


The Indian women's chess team has achieved an excellence  

The Indian women's team won a silver medal at the FIDE World Women's Team Chess Championship, making history. Dronavali Harika, R Vaishali, Tania Sachdev, Mary Ann Gomes, and Bhakti Kulkarni made up the team. This was India's first medal at the Olympics.


Aditi Ashok, the Indian golfer who captivated the entire nation on the game

Aditi finished fourth in the Tokyo Olympics. Despite the fact that she did not win an Olympic medal, Aditi's performance in Tokyo prompted 1.3 billion people to wake up at 4 a.m. to see the golf sensation compete. Despite her low ranking, she gave the world's finest golfers a run for their money.


The win of the Indian men's and women's hockey teams in Tokyo 

At the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian men's and women's hockey teams made history.

The bronze medal for the men's team ended India's 41-year medal drought at the Olympics. Despite the fact that the women's team did not win a medal, they made history as the first Indian women's hockey team to reach an Olympic quarterfinal. Both of these accomplishments were significant for both the teams and our country.

Anshu's victory at the World Championships as a teen wrestler

Anshu Malik, 19, won a silver medal at the World Wrestling Championships. In addition, the adolescent became India's first female finalist in the tournament. The young wrestler delivered a remarkable effort, becoming only the fifth Indian woman to win a worlds medal, and the best thus far.


Long Jumper Shaili Singh 

Shaili Singh, a rising star in India, is an athlete. Shaili Singh, a skilled long jumper, took silver at the U-20 World Athletics Championships. The 17-year-old narrowly missed out on making history by 1cm, but the 6.59m jump was a personal best for Shaili.


As a fantastic sporting year draws to a close, all Indian sports lovers will be looking forward to 2022, where new records will hopefully be set.
