Vinod Dua
Vinod Dua (11 March 1954 – 4 December 2021) began his career in journalism with Doordarshan, where he appeared on programmes such as Yuva Manch, Yuv Jan, Jawan Tarang, and Aap Ke Liye. Dua's first major brush with fame came in the 1980s, when he and NDTV co-founder Prannoy Roy launched election commentary on Doordarshan. He was the first electronic media journalist to get the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award, which he received in 1996
In 2008, the Indian government honoured him with the Padma Shri award for journalism. In June 2017, the Mumbai Press Club honoured Dua with the RedInk Award, which was handed to him by Devendra Fadnavis, the former Chief Minister of Maharashtra, for his lifetime contribution in the area of journalism.
Early life
He graduated from Hans Raj College with a bachelor's degree in English literature and a master's degree in literature, both from the University of Delhi.
Dua participated in a variety of singing and debate activities during his school and college years,
and he also performed in theatres until the mid-1980s. [requires citation] The Sri Ram Center for
Art and Culture's Sutradhar Puppet staged two children's plays written by Dua. He was a part of
Theatrical Union, a street theatre company that created plays about societal issues such as dowry.
Dua, who died on 4 December, began the enormously popular NDTV show Zaika India Ka in the late 2000s, during which he crisscrossed cities, stopping by highway dhabas to offer viewers a firsthand taste of the food — long before youth took over food blogging and vlogging in the country.
The show had a large footprint. In quest of Indian flavours, customs, and people, Dua travelled from Kashmir to Tamil Nadu; Gujarat to the Northeast; and San Francisco, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Manchester, Birmingham, and an unending list of national and international sites.
Dua transitioned from broadcast journalism to digital journalism when he joined The Wire Hindi, where he hosted the show Jan Gan Man Ki Baat, where he offered his wise and hilarious take on the news of the day, which became extremely popular.
"Only a few individuals are aware that Vinod never wrote the scripts for his shows. He also didn't mention the teleprompter. Straightforward and bold. He was open and honest. In a Facebook post, he said, "Sometimes he was bitter, but overall he had an easygoing approach about life." Dua was also at ease in both English and Hindi, according to Thanvi.
