The parade in Delhi, the nation's capital, which is broadcast live nationwide, is the event's high point.

Every year, a foreign dignitary is also invited to the country as the parade's principal guest; this year, that honor went to Egypt's president Abdul Fattah al-Sisi.
Numerous spectators braved the chilly January weather to witness the parade as it traveled along the recently restored Kartavya Path (formerly Rajpath).

As the prime minister, president, and other guests looked on, soldiers from various regiments of the Indian military marched.

In addition, 144 Egyptian military personnel participated in the parade.
Women were included in a number of marching contingents, including those from the navy. One of the parade's attractions this year was a Central Reserve Police Force troop made up entirely of women.
Six Agniveers, soldiers from the Indian army's new employment program, were part of the Naval contingent.
The parade also demonstrated India's concentration on domestic weapon production. Indian-made 105mm field guns were employed in place of the customary 25-pounder guns from the British era that are fired during the 21-gun salute to the president.
On show were military and defence systems made in India.
Some soldiers rode horses and camels that were also decorated in vibrant garb.

Fleets of planes performed an aerial display, darting across the sky in brilliant formations.
The magnificent floats or tableaux that represented the many Indian states replaced the show at that point.
These are frequently based on significant cultural or historical moments that the states wish to emphasize. As entertainers danced and waved their way through the masses, the atmosphere was joyful.
Additionally, other states and districts held their own, smaller parades and cultural events.

A number of government agencies also displayed their own tableaux highlighting India's accomplishments in the sciences and technologies as well as in agriculture.
