Brazilian professional footballer Edson Arantes do Nascimento, better known by his stage name Pelé, was a forward. He was among the most accomplished and well-known athletes of the 20th century, and FIFA even named him "the greatest" player of all time.

4. Russian and Ukraine War

Russia invaded Ukraine border due to the fact that Ukraine showed its interest  to join NATO and European Union.
On 24 Feb 2022, Putin ordered Russian army to enter into Ukraine. Situation could have been fatal and opened doors for 3rd World War, however, got restricted to these two countries. 
Earlier, Ukraine sought help from NATO, but NATO instead helped Ukraine by providing them arms, ammunitions, money, training, etc.


After 10 months of Russia-Ukraine war, there hasn't been no outcome yet. There are no signs of cease fire that can be foreseen as of yet.

As a result of the war, Oil and Natural gas prices have gone up, which has raised up the cost of living of common people across world.


The bright part of this war is, this has been only restricted to only 2 countries until now and the possibility of 3rd world war has been ruled out.


It’s presumed that in 2023, both countries would probably look forward to sort out this war situation by the way of peace talks.

5. No-Confidence Motion against PM of Pakistan, Imran Khan 

 

Imran tried to save himself and came out safe avoiding the voting procedure. He repeatedly kept on mentioning that external forces are behind bringing him down. On 27th March, Imran released a proof supporting his above statement. 

Later, during National Assembly’s voting on 9th and 10th April 2022, Imran couldn’t prove his majority thereby becoming the first Prime Minister in history of Pakistan, to be voted out .

Shahbaz Sharif, brother of  Pakistan's earlier PM Nawaz Sharif, from political party 'Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN)',  became the successor of Imran Khan. 

6. Sri Lanka declares themselves insolvent.

Then Gotabaya Rajapaksa was the President of Sri Lanka ..


Inflation caught up on a big scale. Although Gotabaya's government was in trouble since 2021, this became huge during March 2022. Following this, in May 2022,  Gotabaya tendered his resignation, although he wasn’t keen on getting down of the throne.

On 9th July, protesters barged into President’s house and created havoc, but until then, Gotabaya Rajapaksa managed to fly away with his family.

7. Zero-COVID Policy in China

In China, there was a huge outburst amongst people considering Zero-COVID policy following which, agitations started. People demanded resignation of President Xi Jinping.
However, despite the protests, Xi Jinping will continue to be the president of China (PRC) in 2023 as well. 
In Beijing a building caught fire and unfortunately, due to Zero-COVID policy, reportedly fire extinguisher couldn’t reach in time and many causalities happened.

10. Philippines: Ferdinand Marcos Jr. won Presidential elections

In May 2022, Ferdinand Marcos Jr. won Presidential elections and became 17th President of Philippines.

13. James Webb launches powerful telescope

On December 25, 2021, the James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) was launched. The next major space research observatory after Hubble, this telescope is intended to provide definitive answers to fundamental questions about the nature of the universe and to make ground-breaking discoveries throughout the spectrum of astronomy. On July 11, 2022, the public received the first JWST image via a press conference.

            Finally had a few nights of clear skies this week.

14. Iran: Mehsa Amini lost her life due to Hijab controversy

16th Sept, 23 years old Mehsa Amini lost her life due to Hijab controversy. Iran has prosecuted 15000 protesters. Reportedly, this protest is going to continue in 2023 as well.
