The cold is expected to subside in the next couple of days, followed by rain over various cities in northwest India between January 21 and 23, according to the Indian Meteorological Department.
On Tuesday, areas of Delhi experienced cold weather for the sixth day in a row, with overcast skies and low clouds hanging over the city, despite the India Meteorological Department's (IMD) prediction that the cold will subside over the next 24 hours, followed by rain over Delhi and other cities in northwest India.
The highest temperature in Delhi dropped four degrees on Tuesday this week, with Safdarjung, Delhi's base observatory, recording a high of 15.4 degrees, four points down below normal for this time of year. On Monday, the temperature was 16.1 degrees.
During the Christmas week in December 2021, Delhi's air quality was rated as 'very poor,' and the minimum temperature was 10.4 degrees Celsius, three degrees above usual.
According to data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), the Air Quality Index (AQI) was 459 on Sunday evening (26th December 2021), which is in the 'severe' category. The next day morning, the AQI was 373.
